help with deciding a good topic to argue?

for my english class we have to write an argumentative paper related to a novel that we have read. some areas that i have been looking at but struggling to find a point i want to argue about are importance of father figures in a young man's life, is a person involved in illegal activities a respectable citizen if he has good intentions and teaches a boy good things about being a good man and how education is important, what society should do with abusive parents and their children.

please don't hesitate with any ideas as to actual arguments i can make and keep in mind i do need to be able to find reliable sources to back up my argument.
