help with Car and Moving?

I am 18 and I am getting ready to move out of my parents house.
The College I am attending is far from where I live ( I live in Mass and the College is in Virginia Beach )
My dad gave me a car but I need to get the car ready for such a long drive and my room mate ( coming with me doesn't have a license ) so i am driving the whole way.
I didn't get the car Insured yet because it needs some work and I need the money.
The rent for the my student house is $450 a month.
Car insurance will be around $200.
It is July and I have to be there by August 24
the car is a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse and has 143,000 miles on it and I dont know if it will be able to make it on a 10 hour drive.
I have a job right now but i just started so I dont have many hours ( aj wright )
My parents have adviced me to just take a train down there but i really wanna have my own car.

I'll need around $700 a month to be able to support myself while there.

I don't know what im going to do.

a lot of colleges will not let freshmen have cars. have you checked that out?

With a limited budget, you'll need to make due with what you have. A car is a burden you don't need. You'll need to come up with money for gas, insurance, and maintenance. Car ownership is not cheap. Take your fathers advice and use the train.
