Help with biology lab, fermantation of yeast?

We tested that the final products of ethanol fermentation in yeast were CO2 and ethanol. But , then we included 4 other samples (distillates) in experiment.
1. Water
2. Ethanol and water
3. Aanaerobic distillate
4. Aerobic Distillate
5.Wine Distillate

Why did we do this ? I dont seem to understand. What purpose do they serve. We were only interested in formation of ethanol by anaerobic yeast culture but we also included 5 additional samples (distillates) in this experiment.
