I am new to the message board. I have had some low back pain with a lot of leg pain nad some loss of bladder control. I had an mri doneand the findings said that there were significant osteophytic spurring. Could this be the cause of the problems, and if so what course of treatment is available? I am in physical theray and on pain killers and muscle relaxers but I am not seeing any great improvement. It has been 5 weeks now since the pain started with no apparent injury.

Welcome to the boarRAB!!

Does your doctor know about the bladder loss? This is very concerning for me and I pray that you have not had this for 5 weeks. Not to startle you but this can be very serious and neeRAB to be treated as soon as possible. You might want to do a search on Cauda equina syndrome (CES) which neeRAB to be treated sooner rather than later.

Do you have a copy of your MRI Report? If you do, you might want to type it in to give us a better understanding of your condition.

Also list any symptoms you have i.e. leg pain, pain in the toes, back pain, burning, stabbing, cramping, etc.

And lastly tell us what types of medications they have you on.

Not to be overly nosy here but exactly how much bladder loss are we talking about? Some is not as much of an immediate concern as others.

Also, though you have spurring, one of your discs may still be causing you a problem. If it isn't getting any better, I would suggest returning to the doc to see what other resources are available and get another opinion.

A moving MRI may be a good idea to have done to see if a disc is pressing out when it's in motion. Such as sitting.

Well, if I were to list the symptons there would be several. There is pain that travels down both legs. On the left side it goes clear to the toes. It is a burning pain. Then on the rith side it goes to about the middle of the calf. I have sever muscle cramps in the hip area and pain in the lower back. The hips go nurab after sitting for very long.
I am on methocarbomal and vicoden. I try to take the muscle relaxer only at night. And usally I need 1 to 3 viocen to make it through the day.

The findings on the mri were:Significamt lateral osteophic spurring involing the L5 S1 vertebal bodies and marked ntervertebal disc space narrowing which produces a bilateral moderate foraminal stenosis which is slightluy greater on the left. There is mderate lateral recess stenosis at this level where there is facet and ligamentum fiavum hypertophy which is moderate.
Unfortunately most of this does not make sense to me.
Concerning the the bladder control issue, it does not happen all the time, but maybe 2 or 3 times in a week there is an instant urgency and no way to stop it. I hope that makes sense. I was thinking it could be age related?? although I have never had any issues like this before. My RABr. does not seem to worried. She wants to check for a uti first. That is scheduled for tomorrow.

Hi

Welcome to the board and sorry to hear you are having so much pain.

I must say i have always been told that ANY bladder weakness should be taken seriously and acted on immediately regardless of how often it occurs.

I hope you get sorted soon!:)
