help with auxiliary aux audio cable for ipod to stereo!?

ok i just bought it to listen to my ipod frmo my stereo but i cant seem to get it to work. iplug the cable into my ipod and the sterios headphone jack. then whaat do i do? no music coming out when i play the songs from ipod...iput the stereo on radio then tryed cd then tryed tape nothing works...its griffons auxiliary audio cable... the only thing im thinkin it wont work is because idk if ibought the right one, theres a RCA and a AUX one, the guy said get the AUX for stereo or w/e....
its a home stereo not car

ya i cant find a place to cahnge settint to "aux input", my stereo is 2years old, is it too old?
 
You plug the headphone end into the iPod's headphone jack, then you take the two-headed end and plug that into the appropriate holes on your stereo (the red-headed plug into the red colored hole and the white one in the white hole). The holes will be labeled either Aux, Game or MP3. Make sure they are in there tightly. Then you change your stereo's output to auxiliary mode. That's usually found on the remote, if you still have it. If not, there should be button on the stereo. On mine (an RCA one), there's a button directly on the unit that says "source." Push it until the display says Aux. Then turn on the iPod and turn up its sound.
 
First make sure that you've actually plugged the cable into the "AUX" unit.

Then make sure to switch your stereo's settings to "Aux Input". The method varies between devices, so you might want to check that up.
