Help With An Energy Debate?

I have to do a little debate for school. I need some help on the topic and what I should say. Here is the topic and I have to be against it. (though I'm not).

Topic: To help lessen our dependence on foreign energy, especially oil, the US should increase funding for renewable energy sustainability, even though this will reduce funding for other important programs.

So basically why shouldn't we lessen our dependence on foreign energy (oil) and why shouldn't we increase funding for renewable energy sustainability?
