help with a smartphone

hey i have verizon and im looking at getting a smartphone/pda and i was wonder why are the cons and pros of the different ones. ive owned a treo 650 before and really liked it but are there better ones out there?

What do you need the device to do? How do you use it? Do you need to edit word/excel files? Camera? QWERTY keypad? Touchscreen?

Give us some more info to work with.
