HELP! WHAT'S A STEP OF FROM A FISH?!?

im trying to work my way up to a puppy. i already had fish and i did pretty well. now what? i need to do this fast guys! help me out. how do i make the transition from a fish to another pet? and how should i get my parents into believing this transition is a good thing and convince them to go through with it?
 
It's not fair to get another animal just for practice.

You need to go to the library and check out books on dogs or start researching online. Make a list of all the supplies you need, how much they cost, and how you plan to care for and train your dog.

Show all of this information to your parents in a mature way. If they feel you are ready, they may agree to the dog. If they still say no, respect their decision. You will be an adult soon and can have any pet you want.
