HELP! WHAT DOES THIS RIDDLE MEAN?

The think the riddle means that you did something that you had no idea what you were doing at the time -- absentmindedly. Then after you did it you look back on what you actually did. Then you realize that you regret what accidentally happened. And so you can't change the past, and it keeps bothering you until you try to set it right again.
 
I think it means...
If you did something that was unwise, cruel, mean, e.t.c and you didn't realize it, you should think about it again with a "more open" mind. You know, "take a large leap to the past" means think back to what you did, "take a better look then last" is like think more carefully then last time a.k.a a "more open mind". I really like that riddle
