2 of my platties have died and now some fry are starting to look sick. About 6 weeks ago my hifin and 1 other platties kept hiding and their fins were down. Went to the pet shop and they said it was stress from being bullied, to remove these fish and add tonic salt to all my tanks. This helped for about 3 weeks and then the 2 fish started looking sick again. Back to the pet shop. They said it could be White spot. Treated both tanks (the one they can from and one they are in). Didn't help! The fish sat on the bottom of the tank and only swam for food. No visible injuries or external signs of fungus or parasites. Yesterday morning they were dead in bottom of tank. What could have killed them? Some fry that have been in with them are now starting to sit on bottom of tank. Have a 80l planted and and 30l planted tank with onlt livebearers in them
Have had water tested and its fine. Have had the tanks running for about 3 1/2 months.

By white spots do you mean Ich?

If it is here are some ways that can treat it/

* Raise water temperature
* Medicate for 10-14 days
* Reduce medication when treating scaleless fish
* Discontinue carbon filtration during treatment
* Perform water changes between treatments

The entire cycle takes about two weeks from start to finish. Higher temps will shorten the cycle, while low temps lengthen it. Therefore, raising the water temp shortens the time it takes for the parasite to reach the stage in which it is susceptible to medication.Treatments must be given for a long enough period to assure that all parasites are gone. Watch carefully for other infections, as secondary infections often occur where the skin has been damaged by the parasite.

Did you ever have your water tested?
What is your water temperature?

Honestly the treatment could have finished them off. You should never treat fish for a sickness that they may not have. Were your fish covered in white spots, or rubbing against ornaments?
