Hi i hope someone can help, about a month ago i was woke up in the middle of the night with very sore pain on my left side just below my ribs. It went away the next day but last night it came back even worse, i had to leave work it was so sore and was sore just to walk. I went to my GP who did no tests and said nothing wrong but this is severe pain. It is still very sore tonight and i do not know what to do as my gp seems to think i am making it up. In the past few months i have also had unusual toilet habits, one day constipation the next dioreaha and also a pain further up just below my left breast. I am 34, if anyone has any idea please let me know as it is sore and my stomach is now making very loud noises. Please help?:(

hi ,ive also had stomach problems which the gp keeps putting down to IBS.
i dont think my pain is IBS related ,its been 2 months now so ive put my foot down and am getting an ultrasound done tomorro. but whilst ive been reading up....as you do!!!! i have read something on DIVERTICOLSIS, cant be sure what it is but i remember that it was left sided pain, could be worth looking into. i do have IBS and even though can be painful ive never experienced severe pain with it. but it could still be that i guess it affects everone differently. i would go to a different doctor to. good luck x

Diverticulosis is what comes to my mind also. (There are two related conditions - diverticulosis is when you develop little pockets in your colon in which waste can accumulate; diverticulitis is when these pockets get inflamed and infected.)

These conditions used to be seen almost exclusively in people over 60. Some doctors have not gotten the message yet that, for whatever reason, people are developing this at younger and younger ages. I have heard of people in their 20s having it, so at 34 it is definitely possible. I was 44.

If you otherwise like your physician, you might go back with the information you have learned. If not, I agree about finding another physician.

IF YOU DEVELOP ANY KIND OF FEVER (like above 100 degrees), get medical attention URGENTLY!

hi thank you all for your replies...i went back to a different gp today and she thought it could be a stomach ulcer, as i have been sick a few times in the last few months. I am now taking Lansoprazole 30mg once per day, so had first one today. I was just sat watching tv and suddenly felt the same pain in my right side. I also had a migraine headache all day and now feel very weak and dizzy. I will see how i am tomorrow. So do you know if Diverticulosis affects both sides or just the left? If i am still feeling this unwell tomrrrow i shall go back with this information....thanks for helping.
