Help! Quick question about Sex and the City

My wife wants to drag me along to see this film. Fair enough I suppose, I made her see Indiana Jones with me last week!

I've never seen any of the TV series. So my question is will I be able to understand/appreciate the film? Or will it contain storylines and references that will fly over my head?

Please reassure me that I'm not just going to be sat bored out of my brains for over two hours!!!

Yes, there is a recap at the start of the movie which should bring you up to speed with all of the characters

I dragged my mum to see it with me and she hadn't seen the series but she loved the film - to the point where she is going to watch the series now.
