Help purchasing a yamaha yz125 motorcycle.?

I am looking at purchasing one of these motorcycles. I already did all the research and I kow this is the one I want. however, I still have several questions. I hope to purchase a model from 2001-2005. are these just as good at the more curent modle? The only differenc I noticed when comparing modles was the pipe that in one older piccture was medal and in the more current it almost looks like its hard black plastic. here is a picture of it.

its the hard black plastic bit attatched to the motor.

is this the same piece? (I think the plastic ones are cooler so can I replace it for a plastic one? btw what are they called?)

ok the black pipe is definentally not plastic. NO exhaust on any motorcycle is plastic. its just black paint or some kind of coating. and the second one is an aftermarket pipe that will make the bike preform better than stock
