‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’

Top celebrity bio films are either a great hit or a huge failure, but when it comes down to ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ the film is a big success. With all the songs of love and hate Tina Turner turned out to become a star over night. The film is based on Tina Tuners life; it offers a rocky and intense outline of her rise to fame. Tina was under her manager/husband Ike Turner a relationship that went from light to dark real rapid. The relationship between those two became extremely abusive as Tina’s stardom began to out rise Ike’s own career.

The film is quite obvious but it’s also well instructed. One of the lead performers is Angela Bassett, she is simply astonishing. When I saw her portrayal as Tina Turner I was shocked, as most actresses try to imitate the character Bassett accomplished the impossible. She makes you believe that she really is Tina Turner by capturing both of Turners personailtys, on stage and off. The other lead role is performed by Lawrance Fishburne, Fishburne is amazing for being able to grip the audience and command attention through a movie screen. Both Bassett and Fishburne are amazing performers, they are well supported by the overall cast.

The director of ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ is Brian Gibson. The writers are Tina Turner and Kurt Loder, Kate Lanier is the screen play writer also.

Music is another thing that plays a huge part in this film. Though I'm only 16, I truly do appreciate all of Tina Turner’s music and I am always amazed when she sings "Proud Mary" (one of my favorite scenes in the film.) The “Proud Mary” scene is the perfect recreation of what really happen, right down to the choreography of Ike and Tina. The energy is what makes the scene so outstanding, my jaw was hanging open in amazement as I saw Ike and Tina going into their dance moves. Another favorite scene of mine is when Tina finally hits Ike back. Ive seen this film many of time and her passion in that scene still gets me emotional every time. After that event I was able to see her escape and see her triumph entirely on her own.
