yes, Sony plans on upgrading to 2.1 in the fall. Hopefully they decide to do 2.2.

Even there's no official rom, you could hopefully get some options from the internet. For me, now I'm waiting a rom v2.2 for my G2

Hi Saly, to which ROMs do you refer?

I'm not aware of any Xperia X10 ROMs available, but that doesn't mean to say there aren't any. The official ROMs are fine yes.

In general, if a ROM comes from Cyanogen or Modaco then you're safe.
