Help please

If I'm in the wrong section I'm sorry.

I got my HTC Hero a few days ago (brought of ebay) and looking through this forum I've been trying to work out what version I had and some thing seems wrong.
As far as I know it's not rooted.
The firmware is 1.5
Build number is 1.76.405.1 146733 CL#44219 release-keys
is this right for a unrooted rom?

Yes.

The latest version of Android officially released (i.e. not a custom ROM for a rooted phone) for the HTC Hero is version 1.5, which you have.

Just to add to that. There is a rollout currently underway of Android 2.1 for the Hero in Europe. See these sources:

http://androidandme.com/2010/06/phones/htc-manufacturers-news/htc-rolling-out-android-2-1-update-to-hero-owners-in-europe/

http://rabroad.com/htc-confirm-android-2-1-hero-two-stage-update-is-underway-20100616/

So you might get 2.1 before the end of the month.

Thanks for that.
All I could find on the HTC site was
Build version2.73.405.5 being updated to 2.73.405.93
I found a page which had rom upgrade to 2.73.405.5, but when I entered my serial number in it came up with the message "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
I was begining to think some thing was wrong with the phone.

Another thing you can try is this... open the dialer and dial *#*#CHECKIN#*#* (that's *#*#2432546#*#*). When you press the final * in that the number will disappear, and a few seconds later you'll get a notification saying "Checkin successful" or something similar. This forces the checkin service to check for an update.

However, if the update is not available for you on the HTC site, then it won't appear over the air either. It just means there isn't an update for your model of phone for the mobile network you bought it from. The problem here is that mobile networks modify their firmware to "brand" it with their own stuff. This can be anything from simply ringtone and homescreen backgrounds to apps etc. This is was delays stuff.

If you phone isn't a network branded phone then you'll probably get it sooner, but it will appear on the HTC site too.

All of these "tricks" to get the update over the air sooner only work if you are due to get an update anyway. The phone checks every 24 hours for updates automatically. To prevent too much load on the cellular data network the networks will limit the number of phones that can download the update on a given day, so some people get the update a week or so after the first.

Keep an eye on the HTC site, and keep trying your serial number. That'll be the quickest way to get the update.

As far as I know the phone isn't branded there is no logo on the casing apart from HTC and there is only the HTC logo when it’s switched on.

Looks like I’m go into have to wait and see what happens.
Thank for all your advice.
