my key chain got stolen and the only ignition key to my gs400 was on it. i am trying to figure out how i can go about getting a new key for it if there is a way.

thanks!

not necessessarily.. my friend bought his used form a guy 2 states over.. we just went to the dealer.. they keep records of vin numbers and keys.. ibet its liek a directory they can look it up on

do you remember how much it cost to have them order the new key?

i feel like it might be cheaper to buy a whole new switchh after all the charges i will get slapped with.

key- 3 bucks
other fees and taxes- 100

i dont recall exactly.. i remember it being like 20-30 bucks though.. not a cheap venture for waht youre getting in return id say.. but hell not my wallet.. i alraedy have 4 back up keys... haha

i know i know i should have gotten more made right after i got the bike but i was lazy :(

ill try a dealership, i think i might just go with getting an entire new switch :(

Take a deep breath, relax and pay attention.

The original key did more than operate the ignition.
It also unlocked the seat and maybe other things too.

If you replace the ignition switch, that NEW key will NOT open those other things.....like the seat or trunk or helmet lock or storage bin.....which ever of those you have.

Understand? If you replace the ignition switch, the bike will run but you will STILL have a problem.

yeah.
i understand
i need a running bike.
not having a helmet lock doesnt bother me. and breaking into a seat lock is probably the least challenging thing i will ever have to do with a motorcycle.

i am willing to sacrifice having a lock for my seat to cover my batter in order to have a running motorcycle.

When I got my 1973 GT750 it had no key, I removed the ignition switch and took it to a locksmith. They asked what year and type of bike then looked in a old card file and cut me a new key for $16!
