help! nokia e65 vs. samsung sgh-i600 (sleeper pick: e61i)

hey guys,

i'm looking at one of these phones to replace my trustworthy yet pretty old 6230i.

i want a phone with wifi and a small profile (which i think rules out the e61i). I think the blackberry 8700 has an acceptable width, as a reference.

I know that the e65 is just a bit less wide than the i600 but both are about the same height.

Both are very thin and thats great.

What I'll mainly do with the phone:
- Web browsing at hotspots (will use wifi and rarely, if ever, rogers data).
- POP3 email at hot spots (i regularily use outlook at work and otherwise).
- Calling
- MSN Messenger (Is msn messenger live available for ms mobile 5.0?).

It must:
- Fit in my pocket
- Have good reception
- Easy to synch with vista
- Exceptional build quality

Nice to have:
- Sound quality
- Battery life (would be nice to last a few days of light, incl'd wifi & voice, usage)

I guess I'm having trouble deciding between a few factors:

+e65/-i600: If I get the sgh-i600, i'll have no 850mhz... I'm on rogers so it'd be nice to have... and not neccessarily a deal breaker per se. While using my 6230i, I haven't really bumped into any signal problems, it would still be nice to have all my bases covered. For a fact, I know that my el-cheapo samsung phone (which has 850mhz) has a much better signal than my 6230i. You could say i'm more confident with my old samsung's reception.

+i600/-e65: The sgh-i600 has a qwerty keyboard which I can definitely picture myself using to the fullest for msn messenger and typing out emails and quick notes. T9 is ok, but it is always slower compared to QWERTY.

=i600/=e65: Screen size is not a huge huge factor for me, but judging by the screen sizes of nokia slides, they are very big and bright screens. The samsung screen I have not taken a look at. Although, 65k vs. 16 million, i600 and e65 respectively, has me wondering.

-i600/+e65: availability is definitely leaning towards the e65 as it seems that the i600 is very hard to find in canada (if you can point out some places with reasonable prices, that'd be great).

=i600/=e65: build quality should be great for both devices.

?i600/?e65: symbian vs. ms mobile 5.0... I wouldnt use too many of the features per se, so I should be ok with either I think (mainly msn messenger and internet browsing)

+i600/-e65: price should be ~$100 cheaper for the i600 (according to ebay).

I would appreciate any input... I wanta get one before the end of summer and I can use it for the school year!

I ruled out the e6i as it seems (i havent seen it in person) really big... Although it is slim...

I was just going through the same thing about the E65...except I was comparing it to another phone.

From what I was told, a lot of things were improved on it, battery life, apps, the OS...reception you don't have to worry about since I believe Nokia has generally good call quality. The phone is definitely a pretty good package in such a small device. I was too looking at the i600, but I couldn't find any cheap places.

I'm actually going for the E65 as well...and I'm too hoping to use it at school, massive WIFI area. Not sure what price you are looking at, but I think this site has a pretty damn good price...

and it has free shippping. not bad at all.

On top of it all...it is just plain nice to have a quad-band phone...I'm still having to wait it out on my K800i which is tri-band, until I get the E65. Before I thought it was no big deal, but I realized it gets really annoying when I keep losing reception frequently each week.

thanks for the reply.... since you've had experience with your treos... dont you think you'll miss the qwerty keyboard for jotting random stuff down?

i think, as of now, qwerty (or the lack thereof) is my greatest concern.

I know i'll def. use wifi on campus, but would the experience be a LOT better with a qwerty?

yeah i went through the same thing...i like qwerty, i really do...but i like a nice screen as well...so the only phone that would fall under...at least my standards...would be the e61i, but the E65 is cheaper and it just seemed more convenient as far as size wise is concerned. it depends...if you are willing to dish out more money for a qwerty then by all means go for it.

i miss qwerty, but since i havent been using my treo that often ive gotten quite used to my T9, so im not worried about the typing. does the text input really outweigh the phone's other features? to me, not really...unless you'll be doing a lot of emailing then yes i would rather have qwerty...but just jotting down notes and such, i dont think there is a real need for qwerty then.

well if you are really into wifi with qwerty, *i think* smaller than the e61i and reasonably priced, you may want to look at the Dash, which is now really cheap.
