One side showing a realistic portrait and the other displaying your hidden self. Or do it as a cartoon, the things that interest you coming out of a screw top lid on your head. Abstract is also possible, just show the things you have an interest in.

I have to draw a portrait showing a hidden/secret side of my self, any ideas on how I can portray that? Composition, etc, anything would be helpful. Thanks!

I was given the exact same assignment a year back, I found that they give you a rather large canvas to work upon in terms of inspiration, just think about that one side of you that you don't often show, because chances are that's the strangest emotion in you have and that's exactly why it's secretive, you believe people may judge you for it and this, this is your ammo, think of every perspective of this emotion or point of view you may have upon something ask yourself how it may make you feel;
Does your gut churn? (Deep green)
Do you feel weightless? (Desaturated cyan)
Does your heart jump? (Hard Pink)
Do you feel depressed? (Deep purple)
And if none of this helps then you could always take a hobby or habit of yours and throw some imagery or metaphors onto paper, that's what I did.

Detailed report on what I had done;
I took some of my habits and interests and thought "How can I represent this?" Well (I'm not afraid to admit) I'm a bit of a user, and there was a line in a song "... Remember what the doorman said, feed your head." the song was White Rabbit by Jefferson airplane, that line alone had defined my image, the moment I heard this the image of a large vertical toothy grin running the length down a mans face as a giant mouth to 'Feed his head' and since there isn't a moment in the day in which I don't have my headphones on or ear bud's in I had to incorporate that as well, and since when under the influence I tend to think deep or methodically a soft purple came to mind and many people call drugs a poison, so a sharp green also plotted itself into the image, the result was a pale man with green veins, unrealistically large headphones, a massive grotesque grin down the length of his face and sagging eyes as red as the devil himself as a strange fluid like substance (Green) flowed out from the backdrop around his head into the ever darkening purple surrounding it.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a freak, but hey, it gets me A's in art!
