My three year old throws temper tantrums every time he doesn't get his way. It isn't uncommon for him to have two to three extremely bad fits a day.
He screams until his face turns red and he smashes his head against the floor as hard as he can. Seriously.
He smashes it over and over again, to the point where his forehead is nearly black and blue and he has a terrible headache and can't see straight! I KNOW it is normal for three year old's to throw tantrums but THIS kind of tantrum is not normal!
Putting him in a room to calm down doesn't work. He only screams harder and smacks his head, kicks the door, and smacks his head more. Ignoring him seems to aggravate him further.
I hate to resort to yelling at him or spanking him, which when I tried once do not work either. These fits are SO stressful and I have no idea why he is inclined to hurt himself so badly! (it has been happening for about 7 months).
His twin brother NEVER throws fits as bad as he does, but rather sits and watches him like, "what in the name of heaven are you doing to yourself?" Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated!
Also, he mainly throws these for the most ridiculous reasons. Just today he threw one for a half and hour because he wanted to 'pinch' his older sister! He threw one the other day because he wanted me to throw him out a window after seeing something similar on television my daughter was watching.
