I gave oscar a little ball of bread to eat. instead of biting pieces off, he ate the whole thing! now hes floating near the bottom of the tank opening and closing his mouth really slow. what do i do????

my gold fish would choke on some food from time to time if you take your net and remove him from water than put him in a few times he'll spit it out. bread is very absorbent

grab him or her and take some tweezers and grab the piece of bread it will not hurt it and it can stay out of the water for bout 2 min. do it slowly.

First off, you shouldn't be giving your Oscar bread. They have such a wide variety of food for the Oscar that there is no need to give it human food.

Don't worry about what you are seeing. It's not choking, but is chewing and softening up the bread. Now, if the fish starts floating or something like this, then I would suggest to net the fish and use a small tweezers to remove the bread.

I don't think the fish is choking. I feed Oscars all the time with freeze dried krill and they do exactly what you described. It's just too big to swallow whole, but they just don't want to get rid of it.

Please ensure that you are taking proper care of your Wet Pets including a healthy and varied diet. Check out the links on Oscars.

The piece is too big for him so it will take longer for him to chew it, he's not choking. If you want to give your oscars treats, try krill or mysis shrimp, it's much better for them then bread. Bread is a filler with no nutrients.
