Help: My mom is suffering and I want to find out why.

My mom is 46 years old but the last couple years she has been having lots of problems. Just last week we had to take her to the ER because she was having intense pain in her abdomen. They gave her a CT scan and found out that her large intestine was slightly inflamed, and they suspected her to have a minor infection. They gave her antibiotics to help her pain, and sent us on our way. Yesterday she had a follow up appointment with her doctor who told her that her lungs were inflamed and that she had an ovarian cyst. He also said she had a lot of ''stomach problems'' and they insisted on another CT scan but she refused due to the radiation, and asked for an MRI instead, doc wasn't to happy but she has a follow up appointment later this month.

My question is in what way can lung, intestinal inflammation and an ovarian cyst be related? I suspect my mom has something wrong with her stomach, either undiagnosed food allergies or h.pylori that are causing havoc on her immune system?

How long has she been sick?

My mom had a bout with C. Diff. in her gut for a year. She had to go to a specialist to be diagnosed, but in the meantime she was in all kinds of pain and couldn't even leave the house as an urge to use the restroom would come upon her sudden like and if none was available...well.

There are some gut bacterias that can be nasty, when they get out of balance. C. Diff. is one of them.

Well she has had stomach problems for quite a while now, estimated 3 years and her abdominal pains would come and go. But she finally decided to go to the ER because the pain was unbearable. I am almost certain she has something wrong with her stomach...I mean they did say she had a minor infection, which in my opinion caused the inflammation of her intestine and lungs.

Do you think the problem is with her stomach, specifically, or with her gut?

My mom had unbearable pain but in the gut. It would double her over. Some days she'd be running to the bathroom constantly with diahrea. She said it stank something fierce, also. The pain got so unbearable she was ready to commit suicide. I encouraged (aka forced) her to go see a specialist, which is when she was diagnosed with C. Diff.

Have they run any checks on a stool sample of your mother's to check for bacteria such as C. Diff? If they just gave her a broad spectrum antibiotic to try and kill a general infection, they could have made things worse, if your mom has a super bug. C. Diff. is in the same class as MRSA- it's a super bug and takes a very specific antibiotic to kill it.

Yeah my moms symptoms are usually pain on the left side of her abdominals, and vomiting, I don't think she actually had any diarrhea. Doctors just gave her a general antibiotic without running any stool tests which is what ticked me off. They also prescribed her omeprazole which I think is for high stomach acid and gastritis. Next time she goes to the doctor I am going to go with her to demand certain tests.
