Help - My G1 is frustratingly slow!

My G1 has gotten to the point where it's frustrating to use. I can't pinpoint exactly when it happened, but over a years worth of usage it's unbearably slow now. I end up staring at a useless blank home screen with no icons all the time, browser takes ~5 seconds just to switch to, sometimes gmail sits there with a blank white screen for ~8 seconds, and overall the whole thing has just slowed down immensely. I had to grab a task killer which sometimes helps, but the problems seems systemic.

Have most G1 users done some kind of full factory reboot/reset of the device? Does that help clean things up? Maybe get me back some of my internal memory that has apparently disappeared, too?

market, maps, steel or whatever browser u use. to check the cache of everything go into settings-applications-manage application-press menu-sort by size the select every large file and clear the cache

It currently shows only 13mb free of internal memory - but looking at the Manage Applications screen, it sure doesn't look like theres more than 100+ mb used of applications. Even when I sort by size, I don't see that much - I'm only at ~50mb by the time I get down to the applications that are less than 1mb. I mean, I have maybe 15, 20 apps? Which, according to the task killer, aren't usually running anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions here - I think I'm giong to do a Factory Data Reset. Then I'll immediately check out how much 'free internal storate' there is, too. But hopefully it will speed things up.
