help my fish keep jumping out?

i asked a question earlier about temporarily keeping my fish in a bucket while i do some maintenance on my fish tank. everyone said it would be fine. well as soon as i put my first fish in (a shark) it went psycho and jumped out all over the floor before i could even put a lid on to cover it. i was then scared to do it as i thought it'd kill itself by trying to jump out with a lid on. So i put it back in my tank. how can i do this? im close to not bothering since it's not TERRIBLY important...

i might consider doing it while they're in there, by the looks of it, i can't imagine it to be anymore stressful than being in the bucket.
 
use the tank water to fill the bucket and take this time to do a partial water change. you would not like it if you were placed in a room that had a lack of oxygen and was way 10 degrees.
