Help me with Restaurant Dining Table Manners?

hi there, here's the scenario: the utensils are placed on the napkin. but when I start eating, I have to put the napkin on my lap. So where do I put the utensils? On the plate? Should I just leave them on the table cloth, which could be dirty?

And what's the right fold for the napkin on your lap?

Put the fork to the left of the plate and the knife to the right. The spoon next to the fork if there is one. The napkin should be in a triangle covering most if not all of your lap.
