Help me out on this Router question. Been arguing with the neighbor all day about this.?

If I were to enable the bridge connection what would it do for me. If I was to run 2 diff D-Link card's and enable them to run at the same time and have both of them plugged into my router would it make my internet speeds increase or slow down. I have several computers hooked up to my router 4 plus wireless. I'm just curious because my neighbor enable the bridge connection on the Router box. We are running the newest 2wire router. Lets just say he likes to play with things he should not be playing with if he does not understand what they are for. We have to reboot the Router twice a week is that good or bad?
