Help me on my Marijuana Debate Please?

I have to argue that marijuana SHOULD NOT be legalized.

The other side wants it to be legalized so if they say, " Our body belongs to ourselves. We should be able to do whatever harm to it as we like. If I harmed myself with a knife, I should bear the consequences, and knives shouldnt be made illegal because of me. The same thing with marijuana: people can harm their bodies if they so wish to, we dont have a right to stop their free will."

Ok, what they said makes sense.. and its hard to find some sort of comeback. Any ideas?

(please dont answer if its not helpful)

Thank guys!

Are u people really that illiterate?
Ummm, I never said I WANTED to argue it.., its just a school assignment, and I have to work with what I got.

Anyways, for those who gave decent answers by saying " look at how it contribues negatively to society as a whole."

Can you give me some specific examples?

That is a good point. And you just agreed with it. So...why are you trying to fight it? It should be legalized. How many people died from alcohol last year and how many people died from smoking marijuana last year? Look it up, Im sure it will shock you.

Ill give you a hint, NOBODY died from pot last year.

You can't. Because it makes sense, Why should it illegal, just because you don't want to do it. Lets go to the ciggeratte issue, they should be illegal because they are they same thing and cause more problems. But why it is they are and people just deal with it.
Btw im smoking a bowl right now.

There was an Australian study that showed that over a period of 10 years the brains of otherwise healthy males shrank because of marijuana use. However, I'm not sure if this study stands up, but I read about it today.

You can bring up points about it not getting out of your system for 30 days so it makes it impossible to ensure that people who are driving or using heavy machinery aren't under the influence at the time.

You could counter the argument that it doesn't hurt anyone with lung cancer statistics and how we all pay for health care in one way or another.

You really got the short end of the stick on this one...there aren't a lot of reasons that it shouldn't be legalized, sorry.

Marijuana alters your state of mind, a knife doesn't. A person who only does it sometimes is one thing. But, the addictive personality that can now get his hands on marijuana anywhere scares me. The slight weirdness becomes bizarre, and maybe scary thoughts.

A person that needs marijuana fro pain reasons can get a prescription. That person gets a monitored amount. And the Dr. keeps an eye on his patients.

If marijuana gets legalized then everyone will push for other harmful drugs to be legal like crack heroine you get the point so legalizing it would be taking a step backwards like prometheus it will turn bad need to think of the consequences if it is legalised not just the good points

What God created by nature is good and should be free.

( or at least less expensive ! )

Just so you know, I don't really agree with what I'm saying.

Ingesting marijuana could not only be harmful to yourself, it could be harmful to others. Who knows what you'll do while you're high? What if you kill someone? They did nothing wrong, yet they were killed because of what you put into your body.

Humm - hard to find solid reasons to keep marijuana illegal. I have seen it unhinge people who are susptable to it. People who smoke it can be left with mental disorders.... but the problem is they already had the mental disorders and the marijuana made them worse - you could probably say the same thing about booze.

I don't smoke it anymore - and a lot of people I know don't smoke it anymore. It's too strong - it's too time consuming - it puts you in a place where it's hard to make a living or maintain relationships - and it can promote mental instability....

But the rest of the crap they say (it's a "GateWay Drug:!!) - it's all crap for stupid people to repeat. Hard to find a good solid reason to put kids in prison for having it.

Marijuana should NOT be legalized because:

1. I don't want policemen, firemen, Soldiers, bankers, doctors, etc all smoked up before they go on the job.

2. Marijuana stays in your system for 28-30 days. Alcohol is legal, but you can't go to work drunk. How would employers test to see if you're high on the job if it stays in your system that long?

3. One joint kills 10 times the amount of brain cells as one drink. Brain cells don't grow back.

4. Americans are fat and lazy as it is. We don't need a whole swath of the public sitting around getting high and getting the munchies.

5. The argument that it's "Free Will" and they can do whatever they want to themselves doesn't fly because at the present time marijuana is, in fact, illegal. I can't kill someone and then claim that I was exercising my right to be free and do what I want. In any society, there are rules. If you get caught breaking them, it's your own fault- take the punishment.

If you feel that someone made a good point that you can understand, why are you trying to find a way to debate it? Understanding and education comes through learning. If you're determined to reject ideas that you even agree with, what are you gaining from that?

Say that it hurts society as a whole because it makes people lazier and stupider and they make stupid decisions while being high.

(I'm getting thumbs down because I think people feel like I truly believe this. I don't, but I'm trying to help you with your debate. I think it should be legalized so stop giving me thumbs down! I just am trying to help the guy with his question people.)
