It's a little tiny thing and is very cute, actually. I think I'll keep them around (not like I have much choice, I suppose).

There were about 5 of these in my planter, ranging in size from less than a centimeter, to the size shown in the photo. It is spongy, with a dark red top; white gills that reach up into the cone; a slimy surface, and what appear to be actual roots.
They sprouted up out of the wood of my planter after a big rainstorm this morning, so they must grow pretty quick to have gotten this big.
Anyone want to satisfy my curiosity?
