I am in the beginning stages of my dissertation. The focus will be on parents' perceptions of cyberbullying. The questionnaire will look at how many rules are in place at home for internet use by elementary and middle school children. How much time are they allowed online? How much supervision? Are they allowed on social networks and if so, are they monitored? As far as you know, has your child been cyberbullied or done the bullying? Are you aware of what cyberbullying is or the laws against bullying? Similar information will be gathered on cyberbullying with cell phones and text messaging. There will also be an option to share personal experiences that may be included in the study.
The idea is the figure out how far off the parents' perceptions are from the statistics that have already been gathered previously from elementary and middle school students. This will allow for educators and counselors to see where they should focus when providing parents with education on cyberbulling.
