I'm planning on buying one or several bikes, but confused on what kind of bike I should buy.
Budget: $4000-4500 (exclude equipment)
Use: I ride mostly on sidewalk(when transporting) and crushed limestone road. I don't dare to ride on the road since there are so many aggressive drivers in my city, and I'm hoping to ride on dirt trials or even mountain trails after I improve my bike handling skill, also long distance riding if I have the courage to ride on the road. I like to ride fast and prefer nature environment.
Condition: I'm 180lb and 5'11" tall, 19 years old, new to cycling(started last year), fitness level is low but improving rapidly(training in multiple sports). This will be my last investment on the bike for the next 4-5 years(except if I can earn more money in the university through co-op program).
Choices:
1. One Mountain bike (Giant Reign 0)
2. One Road bike (Cervelo S2)
3. Two bikes, one Mountain, one Road.
4. Your idea
Extra Q: Do i have to buy two sets of equipment if I ride both mountain bike and road bike? How much faster will a road bike go compare to a mountain bike on the road? Will bike's performance, comfortable level and quality be compromised if i choose to split the money on two bikes? What kind of bike or bikes you suggest me to invest on?
Thanks for the help!
