Yuupp!

Hi

Just bought a T5 having had my m505 stolen. But so far not found a way to get all my contacts etc across!

Palm support suggest sync the m505 into the new desktop... but of course I do not have it, just the back-up!

Any ideas?

Also it fails to sync with Outlook 2000?

There are probably multiple issues here since you're going from an older to a newer operating system. The first thing to do is go to Program Files\Palm\YourUsername\Backup. Rename the backup folder to Backup_Old.

Next uninstall the current Palm desktop and reinstall from the T5 CD. Make sure that you you either keep your third party conduits, if you were using Pocket Mirror, or choose the Palm Outlook conduits. Do not choose the option to sync with the Palm Desktop.

Once the reinstall is complete, hotsync again, choosing your existing user name. This hotsync should work with Outlook and restore all your Outlook data but nothing else.

You would now have to go to the Backup_Old folder and reinstall the programs you had previously. Install each one separately, test run the program, and sync before installing the next one. You may find that some programs are not compatible with the T5 or need to be updated and it may require a hard reset to get out of an endless loop. That's why it's important to hotsync after each install, so you don't lose all the work you've done. If you had hacks on your 505, Do not install either a hack manager or any of the hacks. The hack manager and many of the hacks won't work with the T5. There are ways to get some hacks to work but it's best to save that for later when you get your important programs up and running again.

Hi

Thanks for that but I prefer to get the Desktop version synchronised as it is more up todate then Outlook which I only sync'd contacts occasionally, never the calendar.

I will do what you suggest as a stop gap to get my contacts on palm again.

I was using standard conduits on the m505

You should still heed my advice about the backup folder. To get your contacts off the existing dekstop, just install the new desktop from the T5 CD. Tell it you do want to sync with the Palm Desktop, not Outlook. Once that's done, just hotsync and your existing contacts should both be transferred to the new desktop and to your T5.

Oh dear, one step forward, one step back.

I followed you advice and my desktop looks good with Calendar and Contacts all showing in the new desktop.

But now my palm fails to connect. I checked advice on palm support although the solutions there refer to a serial connection as I only have the Cradle/Cable or IR options, not the serial suggested by palm support.

It had been able to sync before reinstalling.

Uninstalled desk top and reinstalled, this time it synched. But I lost all of my contact categories. Groan

It also had a fatal memory error requiring a hard reset
