Help lucid dreaming! Most successful reality checks?

I've kept a dream journal for almost a year and have pretty good dream recall, but I still haven't been able to become fully lucid in a dream. I've had a few moments when I'm on the verge of becoming fully lucid, but my dream self is easily distracted and my brain rationalizes whatever hint made me think i might be dreaming in the first place. I do reality checks throughout the day and I'm wondering if there are other things I can be doing that will get me to become lucid in dreams more effectively. Every time I look at a digital clock (probably like 5-10 times a day) I look away and look back to see if the time changes, and ask myself several times in a day if I'm dreaming and what proof I have that I'm not. What has worked best for anyone who is able to become lucid in dreams? Thanks I appreciate any helpful advice!
