Is it oil-based or water-based paint?
1. scrape up all of it into some container and get rid of as much surface paint as possible.
2. If its water based get some water with dish detergent in it and pour it onto the area....not too much. Scrape it up again. Pour a little more water, scrape it up...repeat this until it is coming up totally clean....it takes ages but thats the way to do it.
3. If its oil based paint scrape it all up as in step one, then get some mineral turpentine and pour that on and scrape it up, then pour more turpentine onto it and scrape it up again. Repeat this until it is very clean, then go to step two and follow step two until all the turpentine is out of the carpet.

Go to modernrugs [dot] com and scroll down to the bottom of the home page. Click the image for rug cleaning and care. It has a huge chart of rug cleaning solutions. Also try the carpet manufacturer's site if you know it. BUT if it's a whole can of paint, wow you might just have to scrap the carpet. Sorry, accidents happen!
