help in ugrading 2.1

hi frnds. my friend in UK purchased HTC hero from 3 network and gifted me the mobile after unlocking it. when i went to HTC india support page to download the ROM i was unable to download it.but when i selected UK support and selecting ROM UPGRADE FOR HTC HERO 3 UK i was able to download.

my question is ..can i upgrade using that downloaded file(102 mb).will it cause any problem to my mobile..because im much concerned as my friend gifted this mobile to me. so help me
 
I would think it should say on the download page which phones with what firmware image can use the download then you just have to see if your phone fits that description. But otherwise I don't think we have enough information to say yes or no.
 
thanks for your reply. i have entered the S/N number under HTC hero to download the Firmware so its the correct firmware.but the update is for 3 UK HTC HERO. originally my mobile comes under network 3 UK category.. but since i have unlocked it and using it in India can i use the same update???
