Help In Deciding (i930, MPX220)

before people start flamming me please know this, i already searched this topic and i couldnt find it, so sorry if i accidently missed a topic because im pretty sure none came up for me. Im using a audiovox smt5600 and its time to change phones. My 2 choices that iam interested in are the mpx220 and the nextel i930. From the reviews i read i found that some liked the i930 very much or they hated it very much and ditto with the mpx220. The main reason i wanted the i930 was because of the flip button, but then i noticed the price and i stopped wanting it. But later on i found out that the mpx220 was 220 and the i930 in the buy/sell section in hofo was ranging in 230-260 so both phones are in the same price range. Both phones are a bit big so i cant make up my mind. Can someone please help me with my problem? thanks

The i930 will not work on any gsm, matter of fact nextel phones arent gsm at all .. they are iden phones. that means their own type of network and they dont share with anybody else..

if thats the case then please tell me why there is a sticky in i930 forum that clearly states "Unlock your i930 for other GSM US carriers.... "?

Ah this is so frusterating. The specs on the i930 is that it is a world phone. Its compatible with gsm networks. Can anyone help me with this?

Tough choice. The 930 is lacking:
Bluetooth
GSM 850
The ability to use apps from outside (non Sprint) sources
The MPX 220 is known for having bugs. The 930 is essentially an MPX200 with a flip button and PTT. MPX200s go for substantially less and I am happy with mine. Well, except the no BT part of it. Now, it seems to me that you want a smallish, flip smartphone. The choices are limited if that indeed is your criteria. Also, its not specified if you are using it on Cingular or T-Mobile. With Cingular especially, you are going to need 850. T-Mo, you dont, unless you do a lot of 850 roaming. If you could accept a larger phone, that'll open up the choices. HTC makes a lot of the smartphones out there, including the new Cingular 2125, they are rebranded by carriers. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/manufacturer.php?m=25
But their not inexpensive. I would say to get an MPX200, but they dont have 850 either. Based on these factors, the MPX220 appears to be the best choice. Heres a size comparison:

hey milkbone thanks for the picture but i would say the main reason i like the i930 is because of the flip button lol. Its not more of the height im worried about its more of how thick it is. I saw the cnet review of the i930 and i must say it is VERY thick and now after learning that u cant have caller id pictures show up on the enternal screen also makes me doubtful for the i930. Right now im using the SMT5600 but like i said before i think its a time for a phone change. hmmmm.. oh and milk, wats ur dislikes/likes for the mpx and the i930?

damn quick, be easy man. Dont be so crud on him.

My main dislikes with the 930 are : No BT, only apps purchased from Sprint/Nextel will work, no 850,too big, too pricey, battery life is half that of the 220, outdated camera, too heavy, add the antenna to all that and i'm just not impressed. The mpx220 is ugly with a cheap, LG feeling housing. It looks like some Verizon POS.It was buggy, but the new ROM supposedly cured that. The one I used had a Japanese ROM, it was OK, but I still liked my mpx 200 better. I have no complaints about that whatsoever. If your're using it with Cingular, i definetely suggest a phone with 850. Have you ever considered a Symbian phone? I just bought one, I feel like I might be missing out on something. Sony Ericsson's p900 or 910 might fill the bill, but there not cheap. I just got a Nokia 3650, didnt want to break the bank just to experiment. It hasnt arrived yet though, prolly wed or thursday. Are you a Nextel customer? If not, I really cant see any reason to go with the 930. Look for yourself http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/compare.php?id%5B%5D=627&id%5B%5D=478&id%5B%5D=&id%5B%5D=&id%5B%5D=

Its good for nextel people, but if you dont have nextel....that might be money better spent elsewhere.

Sorry, forgot the likes. I like that the 220 is quad band, some have a 1mp camera, they all have a flash, the OEM black housing is sweet, BT, nice screen, use ant WM app with no problem, i like the keypad. Just the address book and call id bugs got me POd, but like i said, there supposed to be fixed now.

The mpx 220 is VERY ugly (that's wat I think) and that is the main drawback for me. Im open to all phones in the range of 250-350. In my view I thought the w900i was beautiful but its not a smart phone nor is it affordable. Then there was the razr or slvr but nah. Im trying to find a slide or swivel that's not to expensive. Non of the SE phones cause like the 220 they have the ugly intenna sticking out. My main concerns are looks/smartphone of course/ size. Any phones come to mind?

Sorry if there are spelling errors, im on the sidekicks small keybored. =)

The i930 can run all Java/Smartphone apps after an easy decert. Battery life sucks and it's very bulky. The camera is weak though but it does have a flash (if you really want to call an LED going on and off a flash)
