Help identifying a bird in the garden...?

Hi I am trying to identify a bird in my garden, I have noticed it feeding with dunnocks on the floor but is roughly twice the size. It has brown plumage and seemed to hop around. We think it hides/lives/stays under one of our conifers in the corner of our garden and under (the conifer) there is a burrow just right for its size but were not positive its it's hole. We have also seen it digging holes which aren't very deep.

Any help would be much appreciated.
AND IT'S NOT A CHICKEN!
