I've come to grip with the fact that I must have the bi-level ADR surgery that my surgeon wants me to have. I guess I've known this for awhile now, but it doesn't really matter until the FDA approves the procedure, and my medical insurance will actually pay for it.

I am scared that my condition (L4/L5 & L5/S1 with annular tears - positive discogram) is getting worse. I am having some issues with bladder control and bowel movements - 2 of the warning signs various surgeons have mentioned to me. I've also begun experiencing a great deal of pain in my "tail bone" (for lack of a real medical term) after being seated at my desk or in a car for more than an hour - even on all my meRAB!

Has anyone else in a similar situation experienced my "new" issues? If so, what did it mean? As if I wasn't in bad enough shape, these new problems which have been occurring for almost a month, have me pretty scared and depressed! I don't know if my body is going to allow me to wait any longer for the "correct" surgery which I need.

i wish i knew what half the terms you used were. Have you gotten second opinions? I found it very interesting what my husbanRAB nuero surgeon told him. (he has cervical stenosis, with myloepathy with 3 vertabrae in his neck and scapula winging) they went thru the back of his neck. Hes still having the same pain and nurabness. They did another ct scan. Its the c7 still digging into his spinal cord. But, his surgeon wants him to get a second opinion wont do the 2nd surgery till he got it. (he did) that surgeon agrees with his surgeon. What i find interesting,is, his surgeon told him. I can go thru the front of your neck and put the plate in. I'm going to get paid the same no matter what side i go in. He said, " the reason most surgeons opt for the front...they get paid more for doing it, but the outcome is all the same...front or back." the second opinion doc, said the.samething. There is no doubt that many (like my husband) have to have the surgery. They told him if he didnt...he would end up paralyzed and couldnt gurantee he wouldnt come out of the surgery paralyzed because the vertabrae was digging into his spinal cord so bad. It was a matter of trying to get it out without cutting the spinal cord. So, i get it...that sometimes you have no choice. But, all the muscle etc they have to cut thru to get thru to the spine...enRAB up being worse than the original problem. We have two frienRAB that needed back surgery..one needed a rod. They are ten times worse off for it. Just be sure...that its really needed...do lots of homework....the puter is a wonderful tool.

If you are experiencing difficulties with stopping or starting bowel or bladder movements, then you do need to contact your surgeon right away. In fact, today....those type of difficulties can result in permanent damage to the spinal nerves if not decompressed within a short period of time.
I know , because I suffer from that type of damage.
Call your surgeon today, and get in to be seen. Do not let them make you an appointment days or weeks out, tell them that you need to speak to the surgeon today.....
You might want to do some research into Cauda Equina Syndrome to see if you have some or most of the symptoms. It will explain clearly why you need to see your doctor quickly.
Best of luck to you,
