Last Thursday (20/05/2010), while I was playing rugby with some friends, I fell down on my right hand (dominant hand) and the area just before the wrist (distal radius I'm told) immediately started to hurt. It hurt even more when I tried to move my wrist. I then went to see a doctor. I could actually move my wrist a little, but with very little/no strength. I took an X-RAY, and the doctor told me that I've "cracked" my radius bone. I asked him if he meant fracture, he said that it was "cracked". So then my arm was put in a "cast" (from wrist to past the elbow joint). Now, my first question, how come a full cast was not used? My current one has a hard layer on the top and is wrapped in a bandage. Is this normal? And my hand still hurts periodically until today (26/05/2010) almost 1 week later? Is this normal? I asked the doctor when will my arm be ok, and he said that I should be ok by "world cup", which is on June 11(3 weeks). Is this true? If so, by when will I be able to use my hand normally again? to write and etc. By the way the official diagnosis is " closed # distal 3rd radius undisplaced".... Any answers are greatly appreciated.. Thx
