Help getting over bad habits?

When I'm sitting around bored, I often find myself biting my nails, which, in itself, is a really bad habit. I have found, though, that biting my nails is an alternative to eating. So, basically I need my mouth (or hands, I suppose) occupied (oh yes, haha) and, for obvious reasons, biting my nails and eating every time I am idle is not an appropriate solution. So I was wondering if anybody else has that problem and what they do as a healthier or less nail-filing alternative, or any ideas anybody has. Thanks!
I appreciate all the responses. As for painting my nails/using varnish/etc. that has never worked for me. I just end up scraping off the polish with my teeth :/
 
Do something that hurts you EVERY time you bite your nails whatever. Some people ping an elestic band round their wrist.
Or you could eat a raisin/grape /whatever instead. That way you'll not go near your nails.
The brain will soon think "I don't LIKE that! I'll not want to do that anymore!"
 
i bite nails to...but i dnt like it n im trying to stop...i heard sum celeb put nail varnish tht burns ur tongue..... to stop her from bitting her nails...i think it was britney spears....im not sure
 
If you're a girl, paint your nails. This will make them taste bad so it will reduce nail biting. To have your mouth occupied, chew gum. This is definitely a healthy alternative. hope i helped. :) any questions, then just email me!
