Help for my partner - bad short term memory loss

Right, no jokes on this one please.

I am seriously concerned for the health of my partner. She has been having spells of really bad memory loss recently which we have dismissed fairly easily due to tiredness and small amounts of alcohol consumption but I can’t dismiss her recent bout of memory loss.

She is currently on anti depressants for various reasons and tonight (yes no jokes) after a few beers

First off I would take her to a doctor and have her examined. Make sure there is not some medical reason for the memory loss. One of her medications could be causing the memory loss or it could be some medical problem. Also if she is only have memory problems on the nights she is has a drink it could be a side effect of drugs and alcohol mixing.

Write down when she had the memory problems whatever you can remember about the day such as she was overly tired, had beers versus other liquers, didn't drink at all, how long was the memory loss, etc. Then go to the doctor with her and explain what is happening since she can not remember the actual incidents. The doctor should be able to explain if it is a drug reaction or there may be some tests he feels necessary to run.

Good Luck.

i do totally agree with the above poster here, she definitely DOES need a good evaluation by at least her primary doc at this point. while this 'could be" the alcohol, esp combined with any meds that truely just DO impact a persons brain like the anti D meds can do, this could also be a 'something" that actually occured "within' her brain like possible stroke(or TIA,'mini stroke") that just can happen and play out this way, or many other 'possibles' that just are very much brain related too.

just getting a good MRI or CT of her brain would at least rule in or out the possible brain/stroke issue here, or alot other things that can happen or just 'be there' within anyones actual brain that simply decide to 'present' themselves kinda out of the blue too? but this DOES require a definite visit with a doc at this point to really determine her overall mental status with certain types of testing done in a more one on one contact basis with her doc and also a good neuro exam that may reveal issues that only a doc would be able to see in her. also, depending upon the actual type of anti D she is on, there usually IS a warning about actually even mixing ANY alcohol when taking them becasue of the overall impact this simply can actually have on someones brain, in many different ways? you should seriously look up the name of that med and the rxing literature which is very easy to find on the net, or simply speaking with any pharmacist at any pharmacy too, just to find out if the alcohol in her particular case is even 'safe" for her to do?

her particular 'type' of memory loss is simply a very 'profound' form from what you just described above(and in no way at all 'normal aging' or anything like that) that NEEDS to be Dxed for the base/reason of the loss here. and she DOES NEED to be evaluated by her doc, and soon. good luck with this. and please DO keep us posted on just what you actually find out too.
