Help finding a phone/pda for medical use

Hi everyone,

My fiancee (a nursing student) is looking for a new PDA. Her phone packed up at the same time, so we're thinking of getting a phone/pda combo. Maybe you have a suggestion of a model?

Here's the needs:
- The medical programs run on both Palm and Windows Mobile, so thats not a concern.
- Quad-band GSM would be ideal, but tri-band for north america is ok
- WIFI, or the ability to easily add wifi through an expansion, is mandatory
- Qwerty keyboard (ala Blackberry configuration) would be great

I've just got myself a Nokia E61 that she loves, but sadly Symbian won't run the medical databases. So essentially I'm looking for all the functionality of an E61 in a Palm or Windows machine.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
 
youre better off buying the 2 separate. no phone can handle medical databases (epocrates, PDA, etc.) besides, she will not be allowed to whip out the celphone in the hospital, esp. if shes a student. buy a basic phone and a good PDA for school. she can tether the PDA if she wants to browse, some basic phones can even browse HTML sites
 
I agree with the above - the problem is that some of the medical databases are very large. I personally use a Dell Axim X51v for PDA/Epocrates/medical calculators, etc. I have a phone with Bluetooth and can tether the two for internet access with the Axim or use the built-in Wifi on the Axim. There are a lot of different opinions as to whether or not a converged device is best. Personally, I haven't found anything that does all the things I want to do in one device yet, though I hope at some point the capacity will be there.
 
Wouldn't a GSM Treo 650 do everything you need? Out of the box it won't do WiFi, but there is a hack IIRC... Also I'm *sure* I've seen references to the Treo running medical databases before.

We were originally thinking the Treo; sadly, I've never used one before, and the idea of having to hack it for WiFi as soon as it's out of the box is a little daunting...
