The majority of the really cheap DVD players that you can buy from supermarkets are multi-region. Also, nearly every branded TV produced after 1995 is capable of displaying a pure 3.58 NTSC signal (via scart).
Best place to but region 1 dvd's is www.playcentric.com all delievery's are free and they send every item individually so customs let them go through, only issue being that they are upgrading their system at the moment and won't be back online for another week. Delivery normally takes 5-7days.
