Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, and also new to blackberries, so I am hoping that someone here can help me with this very bizarre situation that T-mobile customer service could not help me with.
I just bought a new T-mobile blackberry curve 8320 2 days ago. It came with the old operating system (4.2) out of the box, and so I decided to update to 4.5. Simple enough, right? I go to the t-mobile support page, select my blackberry model, enter my phone number, and get to a page with the list of available downloads and instructions for desktop and handheld updates.
When I click on anyone of those downloads, however, the page redirects itself to the t-mobile shop phones main page! It does not open the downloads!
I tested the same steps with a friend's computer, using my own device phone number, and it worked just fine on that other computer. This problem seems specific to my computer, but I don't understand why.
-I have a sony vaio laptop PC running windows XP sp 3
-I tried both IE and Mozilla firefox browsers (both updated to latest version).
-I cleared my history and temporary files (though I didn't clear my cookies, since I like to have some passwords saved so I don't have to remember them).
-I tried copying the shortcut and pasting it directly into a new window, but it still didn't work.
-I turned off my computer and restarted fresh, but still nothing.
-I tried using a different internet connection, in case the trouble was with my home network (in both cases, they were wireless connections).
-Needless to say, I can browse all other websites without a problem, so I don't think this is a virus. It's a problem specific to the t-mobile OS download links.
-I spent over an hour on the phone with a very puzzled t-mobile rep who had never encountered this problem (though I found a couple of people mentioning the same problem, without solution, in some older threads on this forum).
Does anyone have any other ideas? Could there be something obscure in my computer or internet settings that makes the t-mobile download page open instead as another page? (it opens as the tmoble DOT com/shop/phones page... sorry, as a new member, I am not allowed to post actual links in this message).
Any help would be much much appreciated! Thanks in advance.
