help...dealing with possible adrenal fatigue...

I am not sure where to post this thread, so please forgive if I posted in wrong location...

I am a 36yr old male.

I have always been in tremendous physical shape and extremely healthy (very rarely got sick ie... flu, colds, etc...).. but this all changed after 2002... My first 2 or 3 years were very hard (but I accepted the responsibility and challenge)... I endured long working hours .. not to mention that I needed to maintain my physical fitness levels that I had to still incorporate workouts/strength training at the gym, so i would have to incorporate gym time between my missions.... my work schedule flying is 5 days on/ 2 days off... with constant daily delays I am lucky if I worked no less than a 10 1/2-12hr day (and this is just domestic missions not including international).. I was lucky if I was getting at least 6 hours of sleep a night due to arriving late at my home residence and/or mission destinations and having to be back at the airport early the next day for my next mission.... I remember clearly one particular day in december of 2005, I woke up in the morning "not feeling quite right", later on that day I went to the gym for a workout and I had no energy, I felt kind of "blah".. this apparently was the start of something not good... so from this point on as the months and years have progressed with my job I started to get sick more than usual, my fatigue levels increased tremendously, I started to become less motivated to workout, I have become physically weaker, I started feeling depressed, my libido decreased tremendously (although ironically I could still perform but what good is that when you dont have the desire), I started to become very agitated and irritable, etc...

Fast Forward to the present.... all my problems have increased tremendously and more problems have arisen... I am experiencing tremendous insomnia and if Im lucky enough to fall asleep I will wake up at least 4 or 5 times a night (the only way I can sleep is if I take ambien).... I now experience Hypoglycemia symptoms constantly... I never was a coffee drinker, I drank an occasional cup ever now or then but now if I drink a cup of coffee I get Hypoglycemic.... I always feel like im catching my breath, when I stand up from sitting or lying down I get dizzy/light headed... now im experiencing diffuse hair loss ( i have no balding or recession just constant shedding all over my head) and the list goes on..

Each day I am becoming a shadow of myself more and more.... my wife doesnt seem to understand my plight and I feel so helpless as I drift farther and farther away from my former self... My wife is an awesome person and I am so moody toward her and she doesnt deserve this... I explained to her what i am going through and she says she understands but she really doesnt understand cuz we get into fights when I become irritable and I tell her its not her its me...

I have had blood work done several times and the only thing that draws red flags is my testosterone (free and total) is low normal, vitamin d3 deficient.... Diabetes A1c test was normal.... I had a saliva cortisol test performed back in November 2006 (Neuro Science) and it came back 8.3 @ 8am (normal), 2.8 @ noon (low), 9.6 @ 6pm (extremely high), 2.7 @ 11pm (high)...... now this test was back in 2006 so i assume its probably much, much out of whack....

I have been to several doctors and have had no help.... the most recent endo that I saw gave me a blood glucose meter and told me to take my blood sugar before and after I work out... my blood sugar is always in the high 60's/low 70's after i finish working out....

I wish i could be more detailed in my post in regards to timelines and happenings but believe or not just writing this post is taxing the heck out of me....

does anyone have any ideas on what to do or any doctors in the northern new jersey area that can help...

thank you

I really dont appreciate the editing of my post by the mod-anon..... Evidently my post was severely ediited by a mod because I posted what I did as a profession.. Apparently we are not allowed to say that I am a Police officer, firemen, Fbi agent, etc...... There are no rules in the FAQ that states you can not post profession, only that you are allowed to reveal personal information....

Did mod-anon even reread what they edited out.... my post makes absolutely no sense now... thank you very much..... its amazing that people say most doctors are useless and dont take the time to listen and that we should be helping each other and instead I get stepped on again by someone playing "god" with a keyboard...

Editing out my profession and background history is making my original post not make any sense or follow any type of timeline for anyone to understand my problems or seek proper help and/or suggestions.... Could someone on this forum please let me know if there are any other forums that I can seek help and not be nit-picked or censored due to my profession as a Federal Law enforcement agent that protects the people in skys?

thank you

Howdy Billy,
Don't rule out having your endo check your thyroid and adrenal function. They both affect what you're feeling. Given your physical condition you could be masking a problem because you're able to "push through" stress. However, after long periods of limited rest you start to feel the affects anyway. In any event, all the fixes are easy and you'll be up and running in no time.

Billy it sounds like you have adrenal fatigue and possibly thyroid issues. There are many herbs and supplements that might assist your body in healing.I will assume that you spend a lot of time outdoors or did during your work. chronic fatigue syndrome and adrenal fatigue can be caused by Lyme disease
For hypoglycemia you should be eating every two to three hours, always eat protein in the morning along wth carbs( it helps digest the carbs slower to maintain higher blood sugar levels. Also , do not eat sugar/sweets as that will cause spikes and crashes of blood sugar.Try to eat whole grains and fresh raw veggies

Billy

you think someone wouldn't get it but I do because I know what you seem to have.

Get yourself tested for Epstein-Barr -- it sounds like you came down with the virus that caused Yuppie Flu or otherwise called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Its non-life threatening but you do have to make adjustments for the busy times by having more 'relaxing' non-busy times.

I have to mentally weigh everything I need to do with what energy I have to do it. such as, if I wash the kitchen floor -- then I can't do laundry. If I have to do laundry, then I can't clean the bathroom, etc.

So while you can still function its at a less degree. The virus is untreatable and always within you once you come down with it.

So get yourself to a doctor to run all the tests -- I'm sure this is what they'll come back with.

You are not nuts by the way and you may think you are cracking up, But you have a real and valid illness.

caringsister54, have you ever tried taking olive leaf extract? or yarrow? (capsules) both supposedly have natural anti-viral properties and are quite effective against epstein-barr. Also they're fairly cheap and can be found at any local health food store. I'm not sure if you believe in natural medicines etc, I didn't buy into it at first either. But it's worth a try, what have you got to lose? I had mono a few years ago (ugh! never felt worse) and my uncle suggested olive leaf. I felt much better after taking it for about 10 days. Most people I know that had mono I believe were still experiencing symptoms of fatigue for months, but I felt just fine in a couple weeks.

best of luck

I've got a fair degree of exp. w/ adrenal fatigue. Take the pupil in the mirror test. Do you ever get cold for no apparent reason? Are you overly sensitive to cold weather? I am/was. I started using Raw Thyoid (OTC) and now I'm warm again. Despite normal 1.8 TSH. Docs are near useless IMO.

Adrenal Fatigue is VERY much real.

please ask your doctor for a glucose tolerance test im having one on the 15 feb the test takes 2 hours so be prepared for this. you drink glucose and they monitar your sugar levels over two hours. ive had all the other tests done and they keep saying im not diabetic this test proves with out a doubt if you are or are becoming diabetic if you are not at least you can put that one to rest and try and find out wht is the cause of your illness
