I've never cooked turkey before.
My boyfriend and I didnt get to see each other on Thanksgiving so were re-living thanksgiving, and he bought an entire turkey for me to cook.
So I have a approx.16-18 pound frozen turkey with giblets sitting in my freezer. I am supposed to cook it for dinner tomorrow night.
I took it out of the freezer this afternoon, and put it in a sink full of cold water (so it can thaw). Is it okay to leave the turkey overnight for it to thaw? I heard it can cause bacterial infection on the meat or something.....
So I put it in cold water around 5pm TODAY. I need it cooked by 6pm TOMORROW night. What time should I take it out of the cold water? And when I take it out, do I have it marinated or something for a few hours??
------------
Also, it has Giblets in it.. do I just reach in through the bottom opening and just yank it all out until its all empty inside? How do I remove the giblets and the "neck"??
Do people actually eat the giblets? I find it gross so I am not cooking/eating it AT ALL. Can i just throw it in the trash?
Once the giblets are out, do I rinse the inside of the turkey with water??? I want to stuff it...
Now, speaking of the stuffing. How do I make it? LOL. Do i just get soft bread crumbs, chopped onions and celery and stuff it in the turkey? Or do I cook the stuffing in a pan and put the "cooked stuffing" inside the turkey???
Sorry I know I am asking for a lot but its my first time and I am freaking out. Recipes would be greatly appreciated (keep in mind I am not a cooker so dumb it down for me please hahaha). Thanks.
