Help choosing Smartphone or PDAPhone for my needs!

I've been thinking about getting a PDAPhone for a while now, but have just started to consider smart phones.

I need a phone that has:
WiFi(802.11 b)
A good Calendar
Plays mp3s
Can accept some sort of memory card
GSM

I would prefer if it also had:
Bluetooth
Decent camera
GPS

I figured a PDA phone would suit my needs but now I realise a Smartphone would probably suit my needs without being as expensive and big.

So what do you all think? Will a Smartphone suite needs well enough or do I need a PDA Phone? Money is also an issue...I would like to stay around $400.

What phones should I be looking at? So far I'm considering the many HTC Wizards and the Qtek 8310. I have not looked into smarthphones much so I do not know many models that are out. Thank you in advance.

I've had a Dell Axim X30. Never used it because I didn't want to carry it in my pockets along with my wallet and cell phone. So I figure the simple solution is to get a cellphone that can meet the needs I had the Axim for. The main reason I wanted a PDA is for calendar functions and wifi. I also definately want mp3 playback. My current phone has mp3 playback and I feel that getting a phone w/o the same capabilities would be moving backwards. If I'm dropping $300+ on a phone I definately want to get as close to the perfect phone for myself.

I hope I answered your question =) Anything else you need me to answer to help you help me? I've learned a lot from this forum already in the day I've been a member. Thanks in advance.

T-Mobile just released their T-Mobile SDA for $250. This would fit your needs for 802.11b, Calendar, MP3s, and expandable memory card requirements. Though it does lack GPS support.

This phone syncs with Outlook on your PC to keep your calendar in check. It can play MP3s off of the MiniSD card (up to 1 GB capacity I believe). If you really need GPS you can always get a Bluetooth GPS receiver with mapping software.

wizard is a great device. if you think you'll benefit from having a keyboard, this will be the device for you. if you don't think you'll need one, then look for dopod pro.
if you are looking for a smartphone, the qtek is the best smartphone on the market place today.
and the only device i can think of that has ALL the features you are looking for is the HP hw6940. wifi/bluetooth/gps etc. but lot of people do not like the fact that the resolution is only 240x240.
if you are on a budget, slightly older machines are available at much lower prices. i-mate jam has seen some drastic price reductions as of late.
and if you are looking for a reputable dealer, look for madmonkeyboys.

this man receives praises after praises from his repeat customers.

hmm okay just had a thought. I could use an excel or spreadsheet function on my phone. I'ld like to keep track of expenses and gas mileage for example. Is there software that will let me do this with a smartphone? I know a PDA can just use Excel...but from what you guys have said I can't edit excel files on a smart phone.

Thanks for all your help guys.

sure you can edit exel files in a smartphone.

and there are tons of expense tracking softwares out there. too many to name, really. unless you want to, you don't have to use exel to do that.

ooh okay that helps a lot

I looked at the HTC Wizard today. Compared to my S710a it's about 1 cm wider and about as thick...that's not as bad as I thought it would be. Seeing how I'm fine with the size of my phone right now I'm sure I'll be fine with the size of the HTZ Wizard as well. So now it comes down to money...

how much is the dealer asking for it?
i saw one today is toronto at this store and they were asking $1100 for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's about $900 USD i guess. over priced as hell.
i just checked madmonkeyboys and his price is $629 for qtek 9100.
if it was me, i would take the qtek over other versions, because it is cheaper and not only that, comes with 2 year warranty.

and if you are on a budget, i-mate jam is only $399!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great price.

and m600 is $529!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow, i wish my wife didn't have me on a leash...............

I can get a Cingular 8125 for $475 shipped off of ebay...what do you think? Worth the risk? I figure I'ld just use Paypal and if they don't send it I'll just dispute it.

$475 sounds cheap.
beware though. there are floods of fraudulent pocket pc phones on ebay lately.
just remind yourself, if it is too good to be true.....

Fradulent phones? You mean fake? How so?

Right now I'm debating between the E-Ten M600 and the Qtek 8310. I still don't know if I want a touch screen or not. gah. Perhaps I need to play with a Tmobile SDA to make my choice.

Yeah I just read that review this morning actually. But the more and more I think about it...I don't need a touchscreen or a full keyboard. I'm not going to be writing long e-mails, I don't care for a touchscreen because I will lose my stylus and I want to be able to use it with one hand. That and getting a PDAPhone over a Smartphone stretches my budget a bit.

I've pretty much decided the Qtek 8310 is my best option.

I posted a WTB request to basically this effect, but I'm after something with a qwerty and not running windows.

I'll be relocating to the Seattle area shortly. Did anyone have a suggestion for the first poster? I did my own research and am nearly sold on waiting on the Nokia e61.

Anyone have further thoughts?
