Help! Beta fish troubles! :(?

Generally speaking, the life expectancy for a betta is about 21/2 years so you must be doing something right. I don't know the depth of the container or bowl you have him in but if you could possibly reduce the water and give him a more confined area it could possibly help. I know such a confined area seems cruel but bettas are found in the wild in small confined areas such as foot prints and under rocks and when given a larger area they try to confine themselves. Another way to reduce stress is to keep them away from light and darken their environment.

Betta's life span is normally 3-5 years
the fish that most pet shops get r brought up to maturity faster than what is natural by over feeding and hormones so which shortens their life span

there not swimming as much because their getting old and lethargic in their old age they may live only a few more days or a couple of months

I don't think there is really much you can do to help the fish. As long as the water is clean and he has plenty of oxygen in the water I don't really know what you would be able to do for it. You should just ring up a vet clinic and ask them about the issue but otherwise you may just have to sit this one out.

We own two Beta fish that are at least four years-old. I've been told that this is an abnormal life expectancy for a Beta, and have sorta-kinda been waiting for these two fish to pass away. Fortunately, Clown and Angel are healthy and seemingly happy fish. Until recently, when Clown could not swim for long periods of time. It looks like he can only swim enough to the surface of the water to eat a couple bits of food then sink slowly to the bottom. Yes, I know. Betas sometimes relax at the bottom, but Clown is full-on laying down. His back fins appear to be out of use.

Is there anything we can do to help? Or do we just have to sit this one out...

Hey! Well I'm sorry to hear about your Betta :(. I have had many betta's of my own and I can tell you that he is not ok. I do have several questions and then let me know asap.

1. Do all of his fins look "wilted" or like there disappearing?
2. Does he have any areas that look larger than normal ie, Belly
3. How long does he stay in the same place?

EDIT: Melafix is fine, the guy doesn't know what the heck he is talking about. My first betta started to do the same thing your's is doing, and I poped the suggested amount into his tank before I went to bed, and when I got up in the morning he was already looking way better, and he recovered and eveything, sadly he died later thanks to his babysitter over feeding him :(
