Help. ATT/Cing charges roaming in my area, please help if you have old coverage map.

I have an old Cingular Western Region calling plan and most of the Southwest is in my calling area. The regional plans are no longer offered.

Imagine my surprise when calling from Phoenix back home to California, ATT/Cing charged me for over 200min of calls as roaming at a whopping .79/min.

I used to have my original coverage map from Cingular and the link showing the calling area. Two moves and a dead link is all I have now.

I am hoping someone out there still has a Cingular WESTERN region calling area coverage map so I can prove my case.

ATT is saying the plan does not exist [as if that matters since that my contracted plan] and only CA is my calling area. They tried to upsell me to a plan cost 30% more and really annoyed me.

We're making it increasingly hard for people to stay on those old plans, they aren't in your best interest or ours...if you move up to the 39.99 plan they'll more than likely credit off all the overage charges. There is also a 29.99 plan that is only like 200 mins and 500 night and weekend minutes but its all national calling/roaming included...you have to ask for that plan its not one we advertise. I would say its time to just cut your losses and pay the extra, or if you're that unhappy with it just get another service...but Verizon's plans are the same prices as ours...don't know what else is big in your area.
 
Verizon offers a national plan for $34.99 and includes 350 minutes, unlimited mobile to mobile (80 million customers strong), and 500 night and weekend minutes. This is also a plan not advertised...you must ask for it. Then once your a customer for two years, they'll open up the minute saver plans which they do offer regional coverage plans for that.

As far as ATT reversing the fees, if you have already been billed them (posted to account and you received a billing statement with the fees), they will not be able to reverse those. They can only reverse fees that are within the same bill cycle.
 
If she's been charged that roaming in the last three months we'll rerate her, I do it all the time. We try real hard to get people off those old plans...if she was already billed for them we can rerate, its only if the same bill cycle is ongoing and it hasnt generated a bill yet that we'd have to wait for a bill before we could do a credit.
 
Basically, what happens is you receive your bill. Then you would pay the bill (including roaming fees) and then contact AT&T to credit the fees associated with roaming. Those credits would appear on the following months bill.

You could go without paying the higher bill (including roaming)...and go directly to calling AT&T to have credits applied, which would be reflected when you immediately check your balance. BUT, you always run the risk of a credit not being approved (as high credit values may need to be approved by a super). That's why I always suggest paying the higher denomination (including roaming) when you receiving the bills and then receiving the credit the following month...but yes, I know what he's talking about...when I worked for Verizon, they also did it.
 
Hey Scotch, I have no idea if you work for ATT or not, But the 29.99/200 minute plan is only for people over 65. So not everyone can get that plan!
 
I do work for At&t, and you can get the 29.99 plan but you'll probably have to threaten to cancel, and if you are that upset over the bill I imagine you're not far from it. I'm not sure why Nick recommended paying the high bill first, cause if you paid the bill and then we credit it off, you've just overpaid and now will just have a credit for next month. We prefer to just credit it off if you are willing to move your plan then let you know what is left for you to pay. If your amount is under $250 it can all be credited/your plan changed in one call, if its more than that a manager has to approve it. If its close to your due date and we're trying to accomplish this we just extend your due date and waive the late fee.

I also wanted to ask because you have wanted to know if someone had a coverage map--we've shut down a lot of older towers that were no longer worthwhile, sold towers and let some leasing agreements go without renewing them so if you're in an area where any of this stuff happens it could drastically change the calling map--but I can't really say, I'm in the southeast an only really familiar with this area.

Its been awhile since you posted, what have you decided to do?
