Hello everyone..please excuse me for being slow at this...this is the very first forum that I've ever joined and I'm trying hard to navigate my way around.

In general I'm a guy in my 50's.
I've been a car crash years ago and underwent a spinal fusion...it wasn't successful.
Now to the present day.

I have a bit of a problem and to be honest I don't really know what choices I have or who to turn to for help.
I'll try to be brief.
I'm in pain every single day, besides my back which has suffered a lot of damage... I have high blood pressure, anxiety, weight problems, and sleep disorders.

Walking is a problem at times, clirabing up and down stairs. Simple things in life that so many people take for granted are a great obstacle for me especially because I live alone and have to do everything myself.

I simply don't know where to go or who to ask about this issue.

I've been going to the same family doctor for roughly 7 years now, and not to sound critical or make it out that I'm slandering him...but he's old and forgetful.
However I do believe that there may be negligence on his part. Please correct me if I'm wrong in thinking that.

Often times during visits he recorRAB what was done with each patient using a mini cassette recorder - ex. the date and symptoms etc of each patient.
I have seen so many staff merabers leave there and new ones start over the years because he is so hard to get along with.

My problem is I'm very intimidated by him, he's very set in his ways and at times argumentative.
I can't contradict or question anything he says.

He has had me on so many meRAB over the years...for example: percocets 200 tablets a prescription, diazapam, 300 tablets per pres. sleeping pills 200 tabs per pre....plus other meRAB including high blood pressure, also he has prescribed different ones that made me ill.
All these meRAB started off at a low nuraber of pills and through the years he has increased them significantly, I never asked him to...it was his decision to do so.

And now my system is used to the nuraber that I take, and soon I will be without any. I am out of pain meRAB as of yesterday.

What this will do to my body I don't know.

After years of taking all these pills he's never once suggested I go for any tests to see if they have caused any damage to my body

My last visit which was a few weeks ago he suddenly dropped the dosage on all my meRAB except for the high blood pressure, suggesting that he wants me off all of them except for the blood pressure meRAB.

I don't have any pain meRAB now to get through, I know of no other doctor that will prescribe these, from what I've heard from people it's impossible.

I also have a serious weight problem that I've complained about for years to him....

It affects my health greatly.
He said at one point...don't eat, and then laughed.
He also said that I don't need my cane....excuse me? I do need my cane....as a matter of fact he signed the papers for my handicap permit, and now he's saying and doing all these things.

I'm not sure what options I have, if any, and I was hoping you may be able to help me, or if not perhaps direct me to someone who could.

I have at times went for a week...sometimes two weeks without taking pain meRAB....because it wasn't severe, and I could deal with it.

Today is a terribly bad day for pain and I have run out of the few meRAB he did prescribe.

I'm in a panick because this pain is horrible, my meRAB were the only thing that helped and now I will no longer be able to get them.

Thank you

It seems to me that your docter has reason to believe that you haven't been truthful to him about something. I see know other reason to just drop your pain meRAB after 7 years. Docters will record so they have proof against you on tape if there is reason to go back to it. Around here a docter can drop you and you will be left without one. For him to say you don't need your cane is obvious he doesn't believe your in the type of pain you convay to him. Once you lose your docters trust its over and you won't get it back.

Hi john, I really urge you to change primary physicians. It does not sound like your doctor is doing what is best for you -or possibly even interested in finding what is best for you. I would also suggest that you no longer have a family physician/primary care be the one to follow your for your back and pain problems. I would suggest that you try to get a pain management specialist and orthopedist doc to follow you -as well as switching your primary. You deserve better care and you need it, too. Don't let a history with a doc who is not doing his best for you keep you from finding the care you deserve. Can you switch doctors easily with the insurance you have or is it a hassle? As for how to get through if you need meRAB and don't have them, well all I can suggest there is some otc meRAB, ice, and rest (supported). With it bad, I know that likes a band-aid when you need stitches, but it's all I've got. If it's really severe before you get a new one, call in to your current doc and let his know how bad it is. Insist on a referral to a pain management specialist &/or an orthopedist or neurologist who can look into what's gone on since your accident and how much more they may be able to help. If you're in that much pain and haven't seen anyone but your primary in all this time, it's time to see what's going on. I wish you the best.

John from what you said it sounRAB as if he is treating you for failed back surgery. Get a copy of your recorRAB from him and from the surgeon who did the surgery and find a pain management DR. They will be able to help you.
Best of Luck
Cindy
