Hellboy 2 has found a studio at last and I cant wait to see this film. I loved the original and I bought the Region 1 directors cut DVD. Here is the news for it:

"Guillermo del Toro will direct Universal Pictures' Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, which will continue the exploits of the humanoid hero from Hell and his partners in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development. "Hellboy 2," a Lawrence Gordon/Lloyd Levin production in association with Dark Horse Entertainment, will begin principal photography in April 2007 in Budapest and London, with pre- and post-production based in London. The film will be released worldwide in the summer of 2008.

"Hellboy 2" will be directed by Guillermo del Toro, who most recently directed the elaborate fantasy "Pan's Labyrinth," which was received enthusiastically at this year's Cannes Film Festival and will be released in December. The screenplay for "Hellboy 2" is written by Guillermo del Toro, from a screen story by Mike Mignola and del Toro, based upon the Dark Horse comic created by Mike Mignola and the 2004 motion picture Hellboy. The first installment, released by Revolution Studios in 2004, earned $100 million at the worldwide box-office and became a cult sensation when released on DVD. The character continues to be a top-seller in publishing and collectibles and is now expanding into animation and games. "Hellboy 2" will be produced by Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Mike RicharRABon. Chris Kenny is the executive producer of the film, with Mike Mignola serving as co-producer.

Ron Perlman returns to the title role as Hellboy, a humanoid creature born in the flames of Hell and brought to Earth as an infant. Raised in secret, the adolescent "HB" becomes an agent for the secret Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development (BPRD), a covert government agency which serves as the planet's line of defense against otherworldly evil. Selma Blair will also reprise the role of Liz Sherman, a pyrokinetic human who is HB's colleague and love interest.

"Hellboy 2" will expand the world of Hellboy and surround him with characters both new and familiar as he confronts a deadly threat to mankind.

In making the announcement, Universal Pictures Chairman Marc Shmuger and Co-Chairman David Linde stated, "All of us at Universal are delighted to be part of the continuing adventures of Hellboy and his universe, as there are few properties which offer this unique blend of action, humor and character- based spectacle. We are incredibly excited by the potential of this film and even more so to be working with Guillermo del Toro, whose vision for this film has ignited the fanboy imagination in all of us."

Summer 2008 cant come sooner!

I cant believe there are so many people who didnt like the first film!
Here are a few plot spoilers for Hellboy 2:

This is kind of spoiler-heavy as far as plot elements, but I'm not going to give away any big details. Mostly background stuff:

Hellboy and and Liz have moved in together, albeit at the Paranormal Lab. John Myers is no longer a part of the team, and actually they don't even mention his name in the draft I read - everyone else is back. Instead, Hellboy is chasing down some monsters and comes right across a news crew; the secret is out and the FBI has to eat crow and go public with their secret unit. This puts a lot of pressure on Hell and Liz, who were already expriencing serious problems. When Hell doesn't do much of a good job coming off for the public, a suave character named Johann is brought it. He's dressed like an old detective and has a glass bubble for a head that's filled with what looks like gas. In some weird manifestation, Johann is actually free energy, more or less, contained in a suit (I have no idea if he's a character in the comic or not).

Anyway, keeping this brief, Johann delights Liz, who's tired of Hell's brash behavior (shades of the previous film), but the gang has to team up to fight a rogue Prince. He's the son of the King of the woodland ghouls, a group of "monsters" that include gnomes, trolls, fairies, tooth fairies, and all other minor imps that roam through the forest. A long time ago there was peace between the humans and the woodland creatures, but then there was a war. To win the war the King conjured the Golden Army, a group of metallic soldiers that were invincible. Sadly, he couldn't control them, and the Army ended up killing innocent human women and children. The King split the key that controlled the Army into three pieces and buried them across the globe. Now the Prince wants the war renewed and has captured two of the pieces of the key. The last piece is held by his sister, the Princess, and the Prince is out to capture her. Unfortunately for him, Abe has fallen in love with her...so Helboy and the crew have to protect her and stop him.

So, basically, the plot revolves around Hellboy fighting off characters from fairy tales

You may have hated it but a lot of people loved Hellboy!
Doug Jones has been talking to If magagzine about Hellboy 2:

"iF MAGAZINE: Now that HELLBOY 2 is official at Universal, what does that mean?

DOUG JONES: It's officially at Universal, and I'm told that they're aiming for filming to begin April 1st, 2007. With a release date, and I heard scuttlebutt, for the summer of 2008. HELLBOY opened in early April, so maybe they'll aim for that time of year again"

So if it is like the first film then Hellboy 2 should be released in the UK around Nov 2007!

Real glad to hear about this one. Went into the first knowing little about it but ending up really enjoying the film. Del Toro is a great director, Perlman was wonderful in the role and it had some fabulous design work. It is a real pity that budgetary constraints limited the ending of the first (no Abe for a start) and I hope they aren't held back like that with this one.

Well it doesnt seem like from that script review that they will be held back by budget this time and the fact that Hellboy 2 is being made by a different studio as well will help!

Wonder if they'll let Doug Jones voice Abe Sapien himself in this one? Imdb (not the most reliable source i know!) has him down as the voice in the Hellboy cartoon series. If that's true, would make sense to let him do it in the film rather than pay David Hyde Pierce to overdub him again.

Does Doug sound anything like him though? I thought David did an excellent job myself - the voice suited him perfectly. And didn't he go uncreditted for that?

imdb says he wasn't, although that might been only on the cinema (or could be an ill informed poster... on imdb? Never) ;) :D

I though he did a great job with the voice in the movie. Dunno what Doug actually sounRAB like though.
